Default Speedometer problems

Ok i just had my engine changed, I have a 1997 eclipse rs the old engine was knocking really bad and didn't feel like dealing with it. Now i found a used engine from a 95 eagle talon same as the 97 eclipse 420a n/a with 71k on it and installed that one. The problem is that the speedometer is 10 m/h ahead meaning, for example the speedometer reads 60 m/h but i'm actually only going 50 m/h. i had a friend drive at the same speed on the highway. So does anybody know what's causing the speedometer 10 m/h ahead?

Yea maybe its the gauges the previous owner put that indiglo gauges on it. Plus my temperature is stuck like a 1/4 down but itcomes up when its hot it never goes all the way down though when it's cold. I always have to take the instrument cluster out then reset it again.

mine reads 2 mph faster when i got past a speed sensor things we have around here, but my buddies new kia does the same thing, so we think it's the sensors on those things, and plus when i got my new speed sensor in, i got it calibrated to the right speed. so if you have a little bit of change it might be in need of calibration.

Did you reuse the old speed sensor or are you using the "new" motor's speed sensor?

98eclpsrider, you have aftermarket rims correct? That could be your issue, or was your issue.

ya, but they're only an inch above stock now, when i get my new rims i'll have to go back because i'm getting 18's, and inch up from what i have now, at it also depends on the tires as well, if you have super low pros or just a low pros or regular ones.

Well, the size of the rim doesn't matter as long as you stay within the stock, overall, diameter..to include the tires. If your car originally came with 215/50/17, 205/45/18 is fine...I believe that's correct, it's close enough for the point. If you're even a tad under or over, your speedo will start to be off and noticable after and around 50-55mph.

I always suggest using an online wheel calculator when buying new ones. I've got a couple of them, I found this one pretty quickly, so here it is...

Use this one for the next buy, unless you stay with the overall size that you have now that is.
