where is the starter located for the 97 GS-T?

on the transmission, on the back side of it close to where it bolts to the engine block

do i gotta pull off the intake manifold? or could i get to it from below?

you should be able to get to it from below, its only two bolts, and it'll slide right out.
dont forget to disconnect the battery (both positive, and negative terminals) and disconnect the starter
