It's cold out here and I noticed when I went to start my car this morning, it was idling strangely.

When I started it it went up to like 2k rpm and stayed there for awhile. It dropped a little after awhile to like 1.8. I then gave it a little gas and she shot up to like 3k, then she would go from 3k to like 2.5 and back to 3k. She just kept doing this. I even turned the car off and back on and it dropped a little in rpm but she kept going from one rpm to another and back, like I was pumping the gas pedal.

It was weird.

Even when I put her in gear and had the clutch down, she would fluctuate the idle.

ANyone have any idea what's wrong? This only happens in cold weather (yes, it happened once before, awhile ago).

It was somethin like 6 below here last night & my beater GSX did the exact same thing untill it warmed up some. Both my cars seem like they wanna stay at 2500 RPM or more when its really cold out. If its fluctuating you might have a leak before the mass airflow sensor. If its anything below zero just be happy it started[8D]

 

Man -6 isn't to bad.. Jealous.. Got like -30 going on. Can you install one of them heater block to the engine and liek plug it in?

 

Yea if you can get to a freeze plug and put it in.
theyre nice to have when its cold. Saves your engine some stress too.

 

back on topic.. it sounds like it could be your idle air control motor (IAC)

 

Thx all, I think it might be the leak before mass airflow sensor. I kinda messed with my air intake in order to get to my turbo and when I put it back on it is not so tight. I wasn't sweating it coz I plan on getting a new air intake coz I dunno what the hell the prev owner put in . Lol So I guess I will get that intake soon and see what happens.

Too bad I have even worse problems now. Sigh :[
