Default Test Driving a 98 today

I'm looking at a 98 Eclipse today, automatic, sounds like the base model from the description. Seller is asking $3,000.

Any quick suggestions any of you could make for things to check would be appreciated. I have zero experience with the Eclipse.

Thanks.

Never pay what they ask. Always talk 'em down a bit.

The one thing we need to know is it a turbo model or not because that will really change what to look for. I am going to assume from the price that it is only a GS or an RS eclipse. Now from that i would say things to check are the tranny. When you test drive it make sure that it works good. Dont be afraid to floor it and see. Make sure it seems to go into gear ok. I beleive that is one of the main problems. Obviously check suspension. Take a look around the engine and check to make sure there arent any major oil leaks around the valve cover gasket or in the spark plugs. Im sure there is other stuff to check but i am not totally an expert on the non turbo motor. Slow420a is your man for this type of car.
