Good and Bad
1st post. Looking at a 2000 Eclipse RS, auto trans. Car is in decent shape, needs a little body work, windsheild, 4 tires etc. It will be for my 15 year old. 1 owner w/ 65K on the odometer. I'm a GM mechanic andI know nothing about a Mitsubishi. What's the good and the bad. Engine is 4cyl non turbo. Is this an interference engine, when does it need a timing belt. Have heard horror stories about these automatics and needing a loan to fix them. Fill me in, need to know as much as I can to make a purchase, maybe. ValueKBB shows around $2500-$3000. I was thinking around 2k-2500. What's a decent price here in the south east US. Thanks for any help.
the engines are very good and very reliable, ive never heard of anyone having any tranny problems with these cars and i know some people make it over 200k miles without any problems. the timing belts usually are changed at 70-75k miles. its a very good car for a first car also easy to work on very straight forward with almost everything on the car. i would probably say around 2500 for the car its low miles but with some body work needed and what not i think it should be around that price range, kbb is usually pretty close on with the prices, i paid about 8k for mine 4 years ago and its now over 100k miles without a single problem yet except a hole in a radiator hose which was the one that came on the car and that was at 90k miles
