Default Timing Belt and spark plugs

I just recently took my car to a aamco repair shop to get my 60,000 mile maintanence done on my 2004 gts. They had my car 2 days already and said that it would be done tomorrow. They told me today that I would need to change my timing belt tensionor today and that would be another $130. I don't no what the total price is going to be to get all of this work done. They were just supposed to change timing belt spark plug wires and air filter. 3 days seems like a long time to do this work... Any feedback Y I would need a timing belt tensionor?

you need a tensioner because you dont want that to go after just getting the timing belt done. Because youll have some major problems if that happens. Its something you will do standard when doing a timing belt. Total i really cant see the cost being more than $500 for that work. The timing belt is not something that is a simple in and out. But its something that if a shop did without stopping should be done in a day, at most two. So you can be sure that they are not working at their fastest to get the car out and that is why its not done.

T belt is not an easy job john. its terrible on the V6. Im sure $500 might be an under guess. a 60k service is like $1000 that includes the T belt and a few other things so I guess that should give you a price to judge by. if your not doing a full 60k service

Thanks for the reply. The shop told me before I took it there it would cost me $725 for changing the timing belt air filter and spark plug and wires. He told me today he would charge me 130 just for the tensionor and not charge me for labor. I will find out how much this is going to cost all together and let you know tomorrow. Thanks for the help

Well I got my car back today. Here's all the work they did on my car. Change oil filter, air filter, timing belt. Timing belt tensionor, Coolant flush, spark plugs and wires the total was $920 is that a good deal? The car seems to be running better and faster or it just might seem that way because i was driving my sisters honda civic around.

thats about right. And I think your car feels better because it is better lol. Plugs and wires if old will rob power and MPG as will a dirty air filter.
