Hey guys, I just purchased an 07 GT in the 5 spd auto with manushift. Let me just say my old 97 corolla was stick and I honestly hated driving stick as it becomes too much of a pain in the *** for me. Anyway, my only real question is what exactly is the 0 to 60 time on this amazing car (did I mention I love the car?) and does the automatic affect the 0 to 60 time? I've seen 6.5, I've seen 6.1, I've seen 5.8, and Road and Track says "around 5." What exactly is the 0 to 60 on this car?

Also, I don't know much about cars but does the sportronic shifting closely imitate the speed of manual shifting? I can't really tell on the Eclipse GT, what do you guys think? Thanks for the help.

 

I don't understand why every reviewer gives a different 0 to 60 on this car.

I'd like to add that my best friend drives an 05 WRX and I've driven it many times. The GT definitely feels faster and that car supposedly pulls around a 5.9 0 to 60.

 

First off, you need to drive a straight drive 07 Eclipse GT and see if it's something that you would like. No automatic transmission will have the same feel and control that the straight drive will give you. You also have a clutch and a choice of what RPM you want to shift at or pull away from a stoplight. This is a great engine and matched up to a 6-speed, you may find yourself liking a stick again.

The reason that your GT feels faster than the 05 WRX is because of the lack of torque at a low RPM. These 2.0 and 2.5 engines have to be driven pretty hard just to produce some sort of useable power. In any normal driving condition, except a 3 to 4 thousand RPM clutch drop and all out race, your GT would be faster. I have been test driving cars the last couple of weeks and was looking forward to driving these **TURBO Super Cars and have walked away without being impressed with the power curve, it feels like a 2.0/ 2.5 liter too often.

It shouldn't be anymore than .5 to .8 seconds slower 0 to 60 and the quarter mile. Motor Trend tested the straight drive version (6 speed) of this car and it turned a 5.9 (0 to 60) and a 14.2 quarter mile time at a 100.2 mph. Your automatic should be just a half to 3/4 of a second slower with a little slower trap speed ( 3 to 4 mph slower ) I think that this test may have been a ringer and you could expect a little higher times but that's just a guess. The new 3.8 Eclipse's are great all around cars, it does everything pretty well.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it. One last question, how does the sportronic shifting compare to a regular manual shift? Is it much slower on the GT?

And perhaps I would've enjoyed the stick GT better but it's too late now I've already bought the car.

Your time will be about a second slower. In theory the automatic shifts smoother and should be quicker but there's more engine power lost in an automatic and the automatic is heavier.
