Default RE: 3000gt timing

There are arrow marks on the valve cover that need to match up with the line notches on each cam gear. The crank sprocket itself should have a mark that lines up with an arrow on the oil pump case. Before starting, remove the hydraulic tensioner and reset it with a bench vice- once you push the rod back in, use a heavy pin to hold it in place through the hole. (Hopefully, you removed the timing belt with the engine is sitting on #1 TDC .) I suggest you start at the crank, working your way COUNTER CLOCKWISE through each cam gear pulling all the slack too. Once you wrap it around the cam gear, it will help if you pinch it down with a metal paper clip against the cam gear teeth. Be absolutely careful and be sure that it is timed PERFECTLY as there is very little room for error on this interference engine.
