Default Mitsubishi Colt (2005) - Noise in Higher Gears

Hi all

My Mitubishi Colt 1.1 Black has developed a noise - sounds like something spinning or whirring.

When accelerating the noise is kind of drowned out by the engine, but it continues when not accelerating or braking. You can only really hear it when in fourth or fifth gears.

Any ideas what this could be? If I didn't know the car I might think it's normal, but it is definitely something which wasn't there before...

Thanks

With such limited information, I am going to make a guess....maybe a wheel bearing?

How about a few more hints, only makes this noise when the vehicle is in motion? Does it increase with vehicle speed? Does it go away if you turn the wheel slightly like when you are changing lanes? Does it still make the noise when you step on the clutch when shifting? How about when you step on the clufch and coast? Are you saying that the noise is louder when you are in 4th or 5th gear or the noise does not appear until you are in 4th or 5th or maybe because you are not accelerating as hard, you can hear it when in the higher gears?

Thanks for the reply - I took it into a garage and your first suggestion was right - it is a ball bearing.

Appreciate your help
