Default Very High Idle

I have a 92 3000GT SL and the car idles at 2500 rpms and goes up and down from 1500rpm to 2000rpm when it warms up. Has anyone here found out the problem that could cause this? I adjusted the screw on the intake and brought the idle down to about 2000 rpms. After I did that, I got a little bit of white smoke from the exhaust. And is there anything that I can hook up to the computer to tell me what it is?

Do u have a check engine light? Try checking your base idle w/ a timing light, b/c when you adjust the screw on the intake your suppose to be grounding the ecu so the ecu doesnt try to compensate what your doing w/ the idle.

No check engine light and I found out about an hour after i changed the intake screw that you are suppose to ground the ecu. Do you think it could be the mass airflow sensor, iacv, or the TPS? There is a shop that can work on it but I don't really want to spend much if I can just find out what the problem is.
