Default vibration/shimmy problems

Ok, Im about tired of this. I need some pointers. My 95' Clipse GS had a bad vibration in the front end from 80-120 mph running 18's. I put some 16's on it and the vibration went from that to 60-100 mph. Then after all that crap, I took off to the parts store this morning and "taking it easy" shifted to 3rd and heard a loud pop come from the drivers front. Didnt pay that much attention to it tho. Later on I leave the house and notice a big *** spot of oil, looked like motor oil but it wasnt. It was that mineral based tranny fluid. Pulled the battery out to see the top side of the tranny and the sumbitch was busted. About a 3" long crack. Now, do you think its a tranny problem causing this and the bad vibration? I also eliminated the wheel theory because theyre all balanced out. Any help would be much appreciated.
