Default My 3kgt is smoking during long idle

If i let my car sit and idle for a long period of time 5 minutes or more it starts to smoke a good amount, but not during normal drive. If i come to a light a sit a few minutes i doesnt smoke, but if i go thru the drive thru and have to wait a while it starts to smoke pretty bad, the when i leave alot blows out then there is no more. Its a white/grey smoke. its not water. anyone have an idea or having same problem.

Could be a couple of things, most likely and best case is Valve Stem Seals. Worst case would be wore out rings.

Valve seals usually... It is just like the supras smoke puff at idle almost always is vlave stem seals in those cars.

extended idling smoke indicated worn valve guides/seals.

The VSS can be replaced without taking the heads off, but replacing the valve guides will require cylinder head removal. Even doing it on the car, the VSS is a pain in the *** to replace. Not something you'd want to do unless you're confident andknow your way around cars.

A few years ago when we owned our Cessna my A&P was successful replacing the seals in the cylinder assemblies using some" innovative tools" and a small rope stuffed into the cylinder to keep the valve from dropping from lack of spring tension, but this engine was a horizontally opposed 4 banger...after pulling the heads on my 3000 gt,and having the intake valves replaced,I cant think of any easy way to replace the seals unless the head is completely off.Theres virtually no room to work in there even with the cams out.If the problem is indeed valve seals,or guides youre choices are limited to either biting the bullett, and pulling the heads, and have them professionally reworked,or sell that puppy and get another ride.In addition if you do decide to pull the heads for rework, you need to seriously consider replacing the timing belt, pulleys, water pump, and tensioner assy at the same time.
