Default rebuild time - rebore necessary?

ok, my 6G72 SOHC just died. im pretty sure the water pump went and before i could get off teh highway, so did the front head gasket. since the engine has 228K on it, i was thinking of doing a rering kit along with a full gasket/bearing kit on teh engine. i was wondering if this would work WITHOUT sending the block out to be bored. do teh blocks of teh 6G72 hold up to wear well enough to have just a standard rering, and can teh original pistons be used? i don't see why there would be a reason to replace teh pistons unless they were cracked or damaged, or rebore if there isn't exscessive wear. thanks for your input

Default RE: rebuild time - rebore necessary?

What your going to have to do is rip the engine down and inspect it to tell wether it needs to be board or not. Check to see if there is a lip in the cylinder wall, if you don't know what to look for bring the block to a machine shop and have them inspect it. Most likely with my past experience it will only need to be honed. If you get away with just a hone, then yes you can keep your stock pistons and do a basic rebuild. Good luck
