Sounds like a local car around here.... you're not looking at buying that car, are you? or is it your car?

rod bearings = you need a replacement engine. turbo overheating... something is blocked or seized up... we can't troubleshoot that over the internet. That's something you're going to need to bring to a shop and have them tear into it.

You need to overhaul your engine. those are serious problems. I hate 3000 gt
they have a lot of issues especially if the owner never take good care of the car.

cheaper and easier to replace it with a good used one. Rebuilds are iffy (unless you find a real gem of a shop that has experience doing it), and most places wouldn't even entertain rebuilding it.

Those are potentially serious problems, but there's not really enough information to warrent a rebuild or replacment at this point. What kind of noises are the bearings making? It may be nothing more than lifter tick, which is not a major problem. The rear turbo overheating? Could just be ignition timing is retarded, which can cause a turbo to glow in the dark. This is a relatively simple check, and adjustment (on the 91-92 models), if that's the case. Or maybe a clogged catalytic converter.

Buying a "good used engine" is always a crap shoot. You really never know what you're getting. But as mentioned, finding a shop that will rebuild one and do it right might be a challenge too, but they are out there ;-). These engines are more intimidating than difficult.

It's a black one, in PA? If it is, then that's a customer of ours. That car is worth about $1k in it's current condition. We sold him that car for $4k with a good engine in it I think sometime early last spring or summer. Paint is shot and the interior is not so hot either.

I think it had more to do with bad luck. The car had bad paint when we sold it to him, he had planned on repainting it anyway, and the interior is just really worn (previous owner didn't take the best care of it).

He won't sell it for $1k, not by a long shot. He's pretty firm on his price the last time I spoke with him.
