Default transmission problems

ok i bought a 1994 3000gt and i have had it for almost 2 years now and it has been basically a lawn ornament because it just randomly stopped working one morning i took it out for a drive and it started to kick back and then catch up with itself and once i got it home i cut the engine and let it sit for a little while then i went outside to turn it back on and it started right up, but when i put it in gear i pushed the gas and it didn't move an inch neither in drive or revers it wont move and inch it just revs up and then nothing i figured it was a problem with my transmission but i haven't been able to figure out exactly what the problem was with the transmission so can anyone offer any advice?

Did you check the trans fluid level and condition? If it has no foreward or reverse gears sounds like it has a pump issue.

yea, definitely check the fluid level. drain it and put fresh fluid in it also. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you're better off getting a replacement used transmission. a rebuild on those is more expensive then it's worth.

now that is what i was saying i figured that the tranny fluid was burnt because it had sort of a brownish tint to it but no one else saw it and every licensed mechanic i ask would all say i need a new transmission but i just put a new engine in and i cant afford to drop another 2000 into this car right away but i guess ill just drain it and put a new filter in and see if that doesn't fix the problem and if not then ill take a look at the pump so thanks for the input but i know never buy rebuilt because they usually never last the first year im just crossing my fingers that i don't need a new one

If the fluid is burnt dont waste your money on new fluid and filter.
