Default Fluids...

I've just spent the afternoon cleaning and doing some regular maintenance on our 2004 Lancer Sportback. The problem is, I noticed the power steering fluid is at the minimum mark and so I was thinking about getting some fluid to top it up. Same with the transmission. Here's my question: I looked in the Owners manual and it lists for power Steering: Genuine Mitsubishi Power Steering Fluid and tranny: Diamond ATF SPIII...... what the heck!!! Every vehicle I've ever owned takes std fluids with minor variations by manufacturer, fluids readily available everywhere. Even my current Toyotas take Dex 3! I've looked online for an answer but I see no clear answer that I'd have confidence in ie ATF , std PS fluid etc... Can anyone give a clear answer, and state what they use in their Mitsubishi?

use whatever you want.
Some people think it makes a difference.
Id only go oem if it was under warranty. Then, id never buy a new car. So.

Mine I used Castrol ATF(Imports), but i prefer not to mix the old trans fluid into a new one. So, I flushed and replaced. It works well until this date.
