2000 Eclipse 2.4 Timing Belt keeps breaking
My shop has replaced the timing belt, water pump, all pulleys, seals and tensioner with OEM parts on 2000 Eclipse 2.4. However, after 1000 miles the Timing Belt gets "chewed up" and breaks. The last time we had to do a valve job and I fear we'll have to do another one because it was just towed into the shop w/ the exact same "chewed up" TB.
Are there any recommendations what we're doing wrong. Very perplexing.

what type of belt are u using? Another thing to look at is the bottom end. The crank might be walking, so once you have every thing off, put the harmonic balancer back on and push and pull on the crank. If you notice ANY movement, ur gonna have to rebuild the entire bottom end. The 4g64 and 4g63 share the exact same block, as well as internals. The only dif is the 4g64 has the bigger bore and slightly longer stroke. Those things suffer from crank walk like no other, especially when they get pushed a lot. I've got an 04 Stratus coupe which is just like an Eclipse w/ a dif body. I race mine all the time, and they do suffer from crank walk, just like the first and second Eclipse, Talon, and Laser. If that's not it than more than likely u need to use a better brand of timing belt. Mitsubishi timing belts are the best next to a Gates Racing belt, so u might want to use one of those if there is no crank walk.
