Default Car will not start...

Yesterday the check engine light came on as soon as I turned the car on and the engine started to lightly vibrate. This problem happened about a year ago and the fix for it, based of the CEL code, was to replace one of the coil packs. This time around I can't get the CEL code because the car turned off before I could get the code and now the car won't start. So, I'm assuming it's another bad coil pack. One of the coil packs on the front row was extremely hot compared to the other two. There was also a weird smell, almost like a burning smell, coming from this coil pack/spark plug. I replaced this coil pack and the spark plug but the car still will not start.

So, is there a way to get the CEL code without turning on the car or anyone have any ideas as to what's going on here?

I guess I need to go get a wired OBD II scanner since the bluetooth scanner I have now won't power on unless the car is running.

I have a Bluetooth scanner and it works fine with engine off, key on...

Make sure you aren't just turning it to accessory... It has to be ON... your windows should work, and your climate control system should be active if it's in ON...

In fact my bluetooth scanner will work with the car off completely (I can find it and connect to it) but I can't talk to the car.

What app are you using?

I have the Garmin Mechanic OBD scanner and it will only work with the car running. I just bought a wired OBD scanner from Auto Zone and I was able to get the codes. I am getting codes P0223 and P0123. Both refers to the throttle position sensor.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot the throttle position sensor?

It's a 2005 and the problem was resolved today. A mechanic took a look at the car and it turns out a blown fuse prevented the car from starting. This actually sucks because I now have to pay this guy to replace a fuse.

Just for my knowledge, how can I tell if it has a throttle cable or drive by wire?

Hey at least your car starts... I hope he didn't charge you that much to diagnose a blown fuse though...

Look at the accelerator pedal is there a cable attached to it that moves or just a little wire connector?

Also under the hood do you see something that looks kinda like a bike break cable?

At 2005 it probably doesn't have a throttle cable...
