Default RE: alternator removal

It's a pretty straight-forward procedure on some cars. For others, it can be a nightmare. Get a Haynes Repair manual and it will most likely give you a detailed procedure with pictures (although the last time I checked one of their manuals the pics were in black and white.) They will also give you torque specs, which I recommend you follow as closely as possible.

To save yourself a potential hassle, see if your alternator is properly grounded. If it's not properly grounded, your alternator won't charge. It's as simple as that sometimes!

I can't give an accurate diagnosis (nor can anyone else really) from the description. Maybe if you give us some of the symptoms we'd be better able to help you!
