transmission question
01 Galant and was looking to service the transmission (auto). Question is (and probably stupid at that) do you really need to find the Mitsubishi transmission fluid quoted in the owners manual or is this just Dextron II and if so, can you add Dextron to the existing factory fluid without any problems. Car only has 64K on it and I doubt the transmission fluid has been changed.
Thanks for any help on this.

RE: transmission question
There was another discussion here on Mitsubishi trans fluid. Do a search as it may help. I know that my Montero takes a Chrysler specification fluid in the RedLine full synthetic trans fluid I installed. I would recommend a full synthetic as it will give better protection and since the trans fluid is usually good for 50K mi will not be too expensive. Try to use the manufacturer's specification if possible, but not necessarily the mfgr's fluid. I think there was a discussion on changing the fluid yourself as well.

RE: transmission question
I would use the mfg fluid for your 01 Mitsu. It is different that Dexron II and Dexron III. Some say that ATF +4 is equivalent. Transmission fluid selection is becomming much more complicated these days. Go with the OE fluid.

RE: transmission question
Not sure if the ATF +4 is a Chrysler type. The Redline product is C+ATF. I've had no problems with the trans., shifting, etc. You are safe of course buying the Mitsubishi brand, but I would like to know who makes it for them and if it is proprietary.
