I have a 2002 Lancer that died while I was driving and now it will not start. It is throwing a p0340 trouble code for camshaft pos sensor circuit malf. I have changed the sensor, spark plugs, s.p. wires, & coils. tha fuel pump is coming on and I am getting fuel up to the fuel rail. To me it seems that the timing belt may have jumped a couple of teeth. I hope not this being an interference motor. I took the timing belt cover off to make sure it was not broken. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!!!!!

 

Sounds like you need to adjust the timing. There should be a writeup on that somewhere on here...

 

Check if you are getting spark. You can do that by removing ONE of the spark plugs and attaching it to the spark plug wire.. and have someone crank it over while you watch for a spark. Alternativly you can just grab onto it while someone trys to turn it over... its a shocking experiance .

My next thought would be the ECU.

If you have the timing belt cover off, check the timing marks on the cam and crank gears to make sure they match up.

 

I just think we should start with the cheaper possibilities... dont you agree?

 

if it helps, its a non-interference motor, so its not toast. mine died at idle and i cleaned the throttle body, and 20k later, its never died again.
