Default Transmission question

I just bought a 2010 lancer es. its automatic.
2.0L in-line 4 double overhead cam with VVT ( 10.0 :1 compression ratio ; four valves per cylinder) 152 HP ( 113 kW) @ 6,000 rpm; 146 ft lb of torque ( 198 Nm) @ 4,250 rpm.

What i want to do is somehow convert my automatic to a semi auto with paddle shifters so that i can race it but also have the automatic feature. (i dont want to slam it from N to drive around corners). i wanted to get this done before i mod the engine. Does anyone have any advice?

Or should i just try to convert it to a manual with upgrades?
