A friend of mine has an '01 Monty 3.5L, when driving it the SUV will mark in the temp gauge like if it is overheating or overheated, but in reality there is no signs of it overheating, also the needle goes slightly up and down randomly. It is always over 3/4 of the way and reaches the top (overheated) sometimes, then comes back down a little. I checked it, and the engine does not show any signs of overheating(no steam coming out, no knocking and pinging, you can touch the radiator cap for a couple of seconds, etc.). Engine Light just came up, and I haven't scanned, but my gut feeling is the temperature sensor at the engine must be faulty. What do you guys think?

Third post; the second link repair is the one I followed. It is the least expensive and does the trick. Needed for repair: time, a soldering iron with small tip and maybe a little solder.

 

What Exactly did you do to fix your problem !!!!

 

I applied a little new solder to a resistor on the control board of the instrument cluster. It was very simple.
