Why in the world did he disconnect coolant lines? Then run the engine with no coolant. Hard to make a worse decision...

Hi hunter. Can you tell me if my 2000 montero limited has control arms in the rear and if so, why can I not find any replacements online? Also on the front control arms is there a left and right side or are they interchangeable? Do you normally replace the control arms if the ball joint has failed or do people reuse the arm if it seems ok? And if you replace one side, should you do the other side too?

thanx sorry about the questions but I am trying to be armed with lots of info before putting money out to get my Monty some needed repairs. Thank you for any advice.

Dan, does your Montero have a solid rear axle or independent rear suspension? If it's solid axle with a pumpkin differential - you do NOT have rear control arms. If, on the other hand, it is independent suspension (with half axles going from a stationary differential to the rear wheels), then you do have rear control arms. I think those are called trailing arms. My 2001 has those, but I don't know how yours is set up.
Front control arms are Left and Right hand specific and they are not interchangeable. You do not need yo replace control arms if your ball joint is bad. Just replace the ball joint. There are three bolts that hold them to the control arm. Relatively easy job for experienced person. Just be careful of the car being on jack stands as well as spring loaded components.
