sounds like a similar problem i had, i had the thermostat, ect sensor and the guage itself replaced with no change. after a few months of research, i changed the pcm and the temp guage worked normal again, but the mileage was reset to zero. the pcm is inside the dash and cost almost 200 bucks

we have overheating on our montero 2002 limited ,all engine sensors working correctly,no service light coming,temp gauge clime
bs to 3 1/4,have no catalyst monitor,no evap system monitor,and no erg /vvt system monitor,when scanned temp is a 215 degrees.can you help with any other way this is over heating.

no leaks in cooling system aswell
