40 mph rumble rumble

Default 40 mph rumble rumble

got a 2003 montero not sport 160k miles on it. When I am accelerating, the car gets to around 40 and then starts this rumble rumble. I can make it quit by taking my foot of the gasit ususally will stop also if I get going 50 or so, crazy stuff, been going on for a year now, dealer doesn't know???

any ideas would be kindly appreciated

Do you feel the rumble, if so is it in the wheel?


Have you checked your front end components to look for any play?


Just a guess, but I'd say you have larger tires on the vehicle, or an aggressive tread and they are out of balance.

Talking rumble?

with my '86 montero, I make sure I lean forward and say giddy-up when going up a hill. Stay in the "slow" lane to avoid being cursed at.
