I have a 2001 XLS and the 4x4 works, but the dash light doesnt come on. I dont imagine this light has burned out with only 40K- everything else lights fine and the previous owner never bothered to use the 4x4 (yuppies... grrr...)
Anyone else have this problem? Is it a sensor or anything technical? Thanks

 

Are your front auto hubs engaging? i.e. is it in 4wd when you put it in 4wd?

 

When you 1st start the vehicle, all of the bulbs should illiminate as a means of verifying it's operation. The ones that don't light up at that time is due to a failed bulb.

yep, the light comes on very rarely. could be a faulty switch? I took the console apart and looked for any loose connections, as I said the light comes on once in a while. Is there a bad sensor somewhere?
