95 Montero Sport here, was sitting in a drive thru and it just shut off on me. No sputter, nothing. Now it will not start. I was a little low on gas, so for giggles put in some gas and that didn't help.

The engine cranks over and sometimes it will catch and run very lightly for 2 - 3 seconds. The strange thing is how it turns over. Instead of the commonly heard sound of turning over continuously, every 2 seconds or so it will actually STOP turning over then start again for a little bit and stop.. I dunno if this is normal for a montero when it is not running, maybe - maybe not...

Either way, anything I can check on here to diagnose this further. Ideas greatly appreciated.

 

Well, I went back out and tested the fuel pump w/ the fuel pump plug by applying voltage to that pin. I could hear the pump creating pressure under the hood and the high fuel line got stiffer. So the pump works, but not sure if pressure is right w/o press gauge here.

 

Took it to Pep boys and let them run their diagnostics on it, much quicker for me! haha.. They said today that they THINK it might be a broken Camshaft sensor? Who knows... They want $40 bux to replace and we'll see from there.
