Default 98 Montero Won't drive straight when in 4WD

I live in Snow country. Just purchased a used Montero a couple of months ago. 4WD engages and disengages fine but in slippery conditions, when I put it in 4WD, the vehicle won't handle well at all. Takes all I can do to keep it on the road. Any Ideas what might cause this?

There is also a pretty good rumble coming from the front end when I have the 4WD engaged. Is the 4WD feature of my Montero junk? Anyone with some experience in these things who would be willing to share some knowledge it would be greatly appreciated. I am a novice when it comes to working on cars and bought this to just get me to and from work. Hoping it will last me a couple of years.

they're not really prone to torque steer, which means you have bigger problems. sh*t CV, hubs gunked up, transfer case crown pinion would b the places i'd start

I'll agree with that statement.

Also, check your control arm bushings. If they're worn, it can cause a toe issue when power is applied to that wheel.

Thanks - I will start by having a mechanic look at those things. Once you get into CVs, Hubs and Transfer Cases it is beyond my abilities. Sounds like I better get ready to spend some $. I will re-post with what they find.
