Default Alternator woes

Ok, I think the alternator on the Monty has been acting weird lately, The low voltage lights come on and once I rev the engine it goes away. I check the voltage on the batt terminals and I get 14.00-14.40 volts, and the voltage adjusts to the load. It does it randomly, but a trigger is the amp I am running (222watts) but it is not a large draw on the system.
I'm going to buy a new one (210.oo) and then have the one I have now rebuilt and have as a spare. Ideas?
