i think standard idle speed is somewhere around 700-800 rpm. Make sure you don't "control" idle with the throttle cable.

What I mean is - do not install throttle cable taught enough to affect the idle. Years ago, when I was working on another vehicle, it would not keep idle. The only way i can keep it from stalling at traffic stops was to keep gas pedal depressed while in neutral. That way it idle at higher RPM but not stall. Me, not in my smarter days, decided to outsmart the car. I tightened the throttle cable, so that the gas pedal did not return throttle plate to fully closed position. That worked for awhile, but once in awhile the engine would just rev up much higher at idle. I did some more poking around and found another part in the idle control system that was malfunctioning intermittently. That was why it would not keep "normal" idle. Once I got that part replaced, I relaxed throttle cable to specified slack and the car always had good happy idle on its own.
