2004 Outlander Update 90000 miles
Fantastic car. I have 90K miles on it and it's going strong.
I live in southern california, so not much bad weather to worry about. I garage the thing at night, so no high wear on the rubber components.
Still on the original battery. Crazy.
Replaced timing and bearing belt at 80K miles. The mechanic said the old one looked like new.
Had a cooling flush at 60K.
New tires once, but I need them again.
On the agenda are a transmission fluid drain and fill and a fuel filter. Does this car have a fuel filter?
My observed fuel economy is 25 mpg. I drive 64 miles a day round trip with 58 of those at 65 mph on the highway.
When I bought the car, Mitsubishi had just separated from Chrysler and I heard no end from nay sayers who said Mitsu was doomed and there wouldn't be anyone to honor my warranty. 5 years later, and it's Chrysler that's folded.

Happy with my Outlander 2004
Greate car! I live in FL and I have 2004 Outlander 2.4L, Auto Transmission since day one. So far;
1 Battery
1 Set of tires
1 Drain Transimission fuild
1 Cooling flush
1 Belt >> Easy to replace
Syn Oil changes every 5000 miles
One problem I had was the engine stalled during standing in the traffic lights. The engine could not regulate RPM well. Once RPM was too low, the engine stalled.
The throttle body was dirty espcially on the closing vent. I bought a throttle boby spray. Make sure spray the solution on clean tower not in throttle body.
By the way, the fuel filter is located on the left rear.
I am happy with my Outlander 2004.

I just bought a 2004 Outlander AWD for my 16 yr old son. After we changed the rear diff mount, and front tie rods ( thanks to this forum), it runs well for 17 year old car. Interior is 9 out of 10 (no rips or fade), and exterior is 8 out of 10 (no rust). AC blows cold and seems to be getting about 25-26 mpg on the hwy (my son & I just changed the oil & oil filter, air filter). Now time to get it ready for camping and driving (light off-roading) on fire trails and sand (no rock crawling lol).
