2008 Outlander SE (US only?)
Today I flipped through the Car and Driver and I saw a picture of the new 2008 Special Edition (SE) trim (C/D calls it ES ). This trim appears to be available in the US only. I noticed that the car has some sort of running boards.
I went to media.mitsubishicars.comwhere they have a description of this model andI learned thatit has "exclusive" door panels, seats (mesh with leather bolsters) and "high-contrast instrument gauges".
The article says "Some Outlander SE features will be available on other Outlander models for 2009." I wonder what would that be?

Has anyone seen this trim in person?

I'm curious about what appears to be running boards than anything else. Those, together with the mud guards, would help to reduce the risk of paint chips on the rear door/fender.

I wouldnt mind the interior door handles being chrome... I know that the '08 lancer has the same interior handles that can be swapt out.
The new door panels, door handles, and even new guage cluster are relatively easy to swap out. Just have to wait till they are available to order...
Here is a pic of what the type of running boards look like.It doesntlook like you step on them, almost like a side skirt. Looks likesome styling but would help with flying debris

Thanks for the pictures. Yeah, the running boards are not meant to step on them, but they have a protective role. I don't like the chrome part, but they are not available at this time in Canada anyway. I just got a set of mud guards and I hope to install them this weekend.
The gauges are nice, but I can do with mine just fine.
Is there any picture of the "exclusive" door panels?

RE: 2008 Outlander SE (US only?)
I just tried out an SE at my dealer yesterday in SoCal. Pretty nice, but strangely, the interior door handles were not chromed, just black plastic. And tdford that is not the gauge cluster that is on the SE.
The chrome on the outside that looks like a running board is just a chromed kick panel. I guess it would help with the paint chipping problem in that the chromed area should not chip.
If I buy the car I will post pics.
