2008 Outlander XLS V6 AWD 60K miles maintanence
I just reached 60K miles and I went to the dealership in my area for a major maintenance service. As I did at 30K, the major maintenance service cost around $495. Besides all the inspections that the major maintenance service includes, the actual works done are:
Engine oil and filter change;
Coolant Flush;
Transmission Fluid Flush;
Air Filter repalcement;
Adjust brake;
4 tires re-balanced;
Tires rotation;
lube all joints and hinges.
I don't think the price is a good price, but for convenience sake, I sucked it up and paid for the 60K miles major service. Now, what I was not so happy about was that the service manager came back at the end of the major service and told me that the interior air purifier filter was in need of a replacement, as recommended by the service manual. Okay, that's another $80. I did a quick read of the service manual and noted that it was indeed recommended in the handbook. So I sucked that up as well. If something is recommended by the service manual, why it isn't included in the major service at the first place?
Not only that, the service manager further "recommended" me to have spark plugs replaced (which will cost another $350-$400); timing belt replaced ($200 or so) and Power Steering fluid flushed (another $150K or something like that). I see that the manual suggests platinum spark plugs to be changed at 60K miles, but I thought platinum plugs usually last to 100K miles, am I way off base? The other stuffs that the service manager recommended are simply not on the service manual, is this guy just trying to rob me? I did not get the additional services done because it simply added up to too much money. But are they even necessary at all at this mileage?
Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

Sparkplug and timing belt should be done 105k for both severe and regular schedule. You don't have to do what is not listed unless some evidence it is about to malfunction..
For reference, here is the regular schedule for 60k. (But this is a 2012 booklet so yours may vary) If you are in Canada I believe they MAKE everyone follow the severe schedule.
