2012 Outlander service maintenance question
Hi guys, here is my situation:
my outlater currently has 48 000km on it. According the dealership, they recommend me to do the 48 000km service to have my car under warranty or Void if i don't follow it. (by the way, i was shocked when they tell me it would of cost me almost 900CAD for the 48k maintenance service)
Now, my question is:
1) it's true that they can void my warranty if i don't follow?
2) Can i just simply make an oil change at 48k kms and forget about the rest?
Your input will be much appreciated

1. No, that's not true. Call Mitsubishi Canada if in doubt. I've got email confirmation from them.
I'd even call BBB telling how that stealership threatens you and provides you with false misleading information.
2. Yes you can.

I did mine not too long ago in Montreal. It cost me around 650. I have a '10 Outlander LS V6 AWD.
What was the most expensive was the transmission fluid change. You can't really find it anywhere else except at your dealer.
They also checked the car all around and did some repair under warranty.
900 seems too expensive. 650 seems fine. My dealer took off the fuel injection system flush from the maintenance because it was not necessary.
I also did this maintenance around 54k kms and wasn't told a word regarding the warranty, as long as you do the maintenances, I suppose.

Thank you for contacting Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, Inc. We appreciate the opportunity to review customer comments and questions.
If you so choose, you may have the maintenance to your vehicle completed at a reputable facility. Receipts covering the performance of maintenance services should be retained in the event questions arise concerning maintenance. Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada reserves the right to deny warranty coverage if the vehicle has not been properly maintained. However, denial will not be abased solely on the absence of maintenance records.
Thank you again for contacting Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada.

Other than that, you can have somebody do the work for you. Simply keep your receipts and make sure to write down the mileage.
As I said, I personally went to the dealership to have my car checked all around before the basic 5 yr/100 000km expired (which shouldn't be your case here). Maybe try calling other dealerships around, if there are any. If one comes out with a better price, you know where to go!
Again, 900 seems exaggerated.
Heres something to consider on the warranty side. I dont know about Canada, but in the US we have a consumer protection law; the Magnuson-Moss warranty act. It requires that for a manufacturer or supplier to deny a warranty claim, they must prove the issue was caused by neglect or damage. Therefore, it would be hard for anyone to claim that you voided your warranty because you didnt get "suggested" regular maintenance done at a dealership.
Also part of this law expressely allows service by 3rd party companies without any warranty repercussions. It might be worth seeing if there is a similar law in canada.

This is pretty much what I've been doing so far:
- oil changes...every 5k miles while under warranty...every 7.5k miles after 60k mile warranty was up
- transmission flushes...every 45k miles/72k KM...via pulling the cooling line hose. fluid can be purchased from stealership and done yourself or provided to small ship mechanic.
- air filter once a year
- timing belt at 105k mile...though mine could have gone longer.
-- do your spark plugs at the same time...if you are tearing into the engine that far...might as well...they should be serviced at the same/similar interval.
- on AWD, transfercase and rear diff @60k, then every 75k-100k mile or so. 75w90 has worked great so far.
- brake fluid should be changed every 2-3 years.
- coolant flushed every 5 years or so.
Mine is running very strong. It is extremely low maintenance.
