Default 2013 Outlander CVT Overheating Warning

I have a 2013 Outlander with CVT, 162,700 miles. Driving for about an hour on the interstate on a 55 degree F day. Heard a whining noise then the dash warning 'Transmission Overheating, reduce speed'. Pull off at next exit, shut it down for 10 minutes. Restarted and checked CVT fluid, level fine, no leaking or or bad fluid smell. Drove around a bit a noticed lag between pressing accelerator pedal and increase in engine rpm then CVT engaged. Also, lag on up and down hills.

Parked the car and left it for a few days. I drove it up on the flat bed tow truck fine and had it towed home. Once back home I drove it around home town for a bit, no warning lights/message and it seems to operate without a problem.

I had bought the car used at 60,000 miles and had the CVT fluid change at 105,000 (55,00 miles ago).

I will take it to local dealership to have it checked out but wanted some thoughts on what the issue may be?

Default Well no surprise

Well no surprise, dealer did a code read on it and says it has overheated several times even though it didn't give me the dash warning. Says it needs a new transmission and cost will be @ $10k, USD. LOL. Not gonna happen.

I've been driving it locally without issue for now and I'm considering changing fluid and filters and using it while shopping for another vehicle. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience and how long were they able to use an Outlander in this condition??
Thanks
