Default 2014 Sport Transfer Case

Got a 2014 Outlander Sport that manual shows I need to change transfer oil. Stupid question is that the rear end or is there a front one and a rear one since it is 4wd? (no laughing)

Thanks
Thom

There is a rear diff, but the transfer case is at the front. To drain the oil it is a 10mm hex key plug on the unit behind the engine sump. To refill is not easy the 17mm Plug is behind the right hand driveshaft and above it slightly. Not easy to get a spanner on, but i normally use a 17mm offset ring spanner. Oil capacity is only about 500ml, and you must trickle it in. If youtry to go too fast air bubbles will just pump it out again.

Open the fill one first. Otherwise if you can’t get it open and you’ve already drained it you’re in a bit of a pinch.

Thanks guys,

I purchased Mitsubishi SAE80 super hypoid gear oil. I think that is the stuff?

Plus had to google 17mm spanner. Never heard a wrench called that.
