My dog knows the difference between the 14 and the 16. lol
He's always wanting to go for a ride. He's pretty well manner'd when we're riding, he likes to bark at people.
Good Co Pilot.

Default 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander front bumper removal

How to remove the front bumper from a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander>>>>
Just like my previous 2014 thread, it's pretty simple. I've gained a new respect for the quick N easy Pop screws that make it a snap to take things apart, but there's sure not a lot of structure in the front like one may think. This thing's ready to fold like a bad hand of poker. lol
To start things off, it's just a matter of knowing or finding all the pop screw places and the few bolts that hold the front bumper onto the vehicle. I wanted to add some new horns and this weekend was a good time to get it done. The radiator cover comes off with pop screws, then the front grill section has 2 bolts (one on each side) and some pop screws. You just need to pull on the grill and there are some release tabs that will just pull out and you're done with that part. (try to pull straight out, don't worry, it'll pop out)

Next is the actual bumper: If you have the plastic wheel trim, they too pull straight out, starting at the bottom. You will see in the pics provided in the following posts the positions of where the bolts are and all the pop screws. NOTE, that under the very front there are some screw style ones that simply take a phillips driver to remove. (I found it helpful to reach through and push down on the center while trying to un-screw them) There are nine, 10MM bolts to remove, I've shown their location in the pics with RED Circles indicating the bolt locations and RED lines indicating the pop screw locations.

Once you've removed all of the bolts and pop screws, simply pull away and up at the corner of the bumper where it meets the fender. Do this on each side and it will fall right off. (I liked doing this in the grass just for this reason and NOT a driveway or garage floor just to show shade tree mech. work can be done) that, and I really liked the breeze and taking breaks in my hammock. There is only ONE harness plug to undo at the front area (pass side) it helps to pop the plugs clip out of the radiator support 1st so you can see the squeeze tab. Squeeze then pull, ta-da it's off.

I've outlined some info in the pics about the horns as well, and shown where the removal points are for the horn shield and mounting locations. I used a WOLO horn set from Advance Auto Parts and they are MUCH better than the puny stock horns that Mitsu uses. All that's needed for the bumper removal and horn install is a small wratchet, an extension, a small blade standard driver (for the pop screws) a Phillips driver (for the special ones under the front of the bumper) a 14MM wrench (to adjust the horns plug location) and 2 sockets, 10MM (all for the grill and bumper) and a 12MM (for the bolts that hold the horns) NOTE: you'll reuse the stock horn bolts (unless you opt for a custom location for them) The WOLO horns just need to have the ground pigtail added (pick either terminal, it don't matter) and put that over the bolt before you screw it back in. I also cut away the stock horn shields front section using a utility knife to give the new horn some room. It's important to put it back on to keep air flow into the RAD.

(Also to come,,,,,, I hate Chrome,,,,,,, guess what's next while the bumper is off?)

Enjoy the next few posts of pics. They tell the story pretty well.

More pics of the bumper removal and horn install / replacement.
. . . . You can see on the lower drivers side of the bumper in one of the last pics, there's a cutout for the lower horn to blast through. It sounds A LOT better!!!!

Looking at the grill shell down on the ground makes me think this thing would look awesome lowered a bit.
You'll also notice the chrome trim removed from my grill shell. tomorrow if all goes well, we'll see an improvement. As I said, I'm NOT a fan of Chrome and I need something to go with the RED stripes.... stay tuned.

Finished up the Chrome trim pieces for the bumper. I initially went RED on them but decided it was TOO much. I opt'd to just grey out the chrome instead.
I might look into some water transfer grafix, and see if they can do a grey carbonfiber.
You can also see the difference in the painted grill. Painting the chrome gloss Black to match the rest of the grill shell paid off IMO. Also matched the rear section between the tail lights in the same grey.

Not yet. I'm planning on a 1.5" drop using springs since it's a daily driver and most of it's time is on interstate or HyWy.
Should be perfect fit for where I want it to end up. If there's room, I'll space out the wheels a 1/4".
I'm thinking about doing the bumper trim in a dark red and silver 2 tone. I might have to see about getting some new pieces to play around with first using tape, but I'm getting close to what I want.

I've also got a person working on fabbing up some plates for the strut tower brace I designed. Just a 2 point mount each side, but effective none the less.

How long did all that take you? The stock horn sounds so timid. But I'm kinda lazy to do it. Want to do DRL too but scared of messing up my car. Wish I could pay someone. Haha.

Bumper actually comes off pretty easy. If you have an afternoon and are just going to do the horns, it should only take a couple hours if that. It's just being meticuless about getting all the pop clips out.
I took a day and a half on it all just cuz I took out all the chrome trim, did some prep work on it and painted 2 different colors before I got it where I liked it. (for now anyway)

Started fabbing a strut bar for the big O. Got the main supports done today.
All that's left is to get some square stock, then I'm going to have it bent slightly and cut to match the supports. From there it's weld it up and paint.

It's only a 2 point attachment, but it's no different than the bar from Ultra Racing I had on my OS.

Pics so far. , , , and one of my trusty welder.
