-edit-
ive just looked up the ferrari ff. Damn styley.

This is coming down to semantics. As i said, 4x4 is for off roading.
AWD systems are the l.c.d. for road users.

You never find someone who doesnt care about driving searching out an AWD just to have it. It costs more and the lcd only cares about price and looks. People tow. People drive on ice. If there wasnt a need there wouldnt be a supply.

interesting theory. Unfortunately the antithesis of consumerism, and capitalism.
'build it and they will come!'

i cant speak for the l.c.d, only go by what i observe.
Yes, there may be a few who actually need the increased drive (i cant picture the ferrari towing a caravan, can you?) but id bet 90+ % of people with it, dont need it. And 98% of townies with 4x4, faux or not, drive badly, and dont need em.

I keep it in 4WD Lock when I'm on highways with very steep grades, as it seems to hold gears longer....likewise for very spirited driving. It makes steering really hard at lower speeds in the city though, especially when going around smaller roundabouts and narrow parking garages. It also brakes in the corners much more compared to 2WD.

I would actually advise against using 4WD lock in snow with the OEM tires, as it becomes extremely tail happy if you accelerate in a corner...the only saving grace is you can power out of it using the front wheels.

And yes. Despite the price tags, those are exactly designed for the lowest common denominator.

To define: Driving all 4 wheels doesnt qualify. To qualify as a real 4x, the rear wheels must be driven, with the front engaged as needed.
Theyre not designed for driving on the road.

I see no point in yuppies driving (usually very poorly) suvs.

All the 'safety features' of the last decade (abs, ie) were designed to counteract bad (common) driving.

Its not negativity. Its a well gained cynicism based on undeniable observation. In this case, people who live in cities and have 4x4s are weird, (a mystery) probably with some kind of mental condition.
Okay, to boil it down, you are just being a cynical bastard poo-pooing a discussion about a vehicle you don't own, you didn't have a firm grasp on what was actually being discussed/asked, and now making points that completely off-topic?

Case in point, you shouldn't reply before reading.
