Default 59 Outlander Timing Belt change

Hi All,

I own a 2.0DI-D Outlander and the Timing belt is due for change. I have done belts myself on several vehicles, but never had to use any special tools as such...

Has anyone done one of these belts themselves and can you share your experiences?

I assume the CAM's can be locked off with a couple of 8mm bolts? Can the tensioner be adjusted easily or do i need a special tool? I see special tools available for sale but all seem to be from the states which suggests that the UK model doesnt need them?

Gimme your advice before i start taking things apart and ***** it up!!

Cheers
Matt

im interested in seeing a '59 mitsi....

Tensioner may need a press to reset, everything else should be straightforward.

Well my first attempt on Tuesday resulted in me re-assembling because of a tool i didnt have. Now purchased so i will attempt this Saturday!
The tool in question is a 12-spline M10 bit (similar to torx but with 12 splines)....this is to undo the bolts on the crankshaft pulley.

I did have take the top timing cover off and noticed that the tensioner has a 6mm hex key hole - so no special tool need there. I also noted that a 6mm bar is needed on each of the cams to lock them off.

Ok job done.....what a friggin nightmare that was!!

The hardest part is getting the auxillary best tensioner off....which you have to do to get at a bolt to take off the center timing belt cover.
The other difficulty is getting the engine mount off.....or rather, not take it off fully because theres no way to get it out, rather manipulate it so you can bend the belt around it....which you guessed it, isnt easy.
The rest of the job is relatively straight forward.

To lock the cams off i used a piece of 6mm bar which passes through the cam sprocket, through a plate behind and into the cylinder head block. I didnt lock off the crank...just left the car in gear.
The cam sprocket has a slot in it, so the idea is you loosen the cam sprocket to help get the belt on/off. The locking off happens with the plate behind it and the cylinder head.

anyway...took me all day, but job done now!

If your pulley looks like this, I assume its just the 4x bolts and it might just need a tap.

But this style will be held by the center bolt....

Thats as much help as i can give....i sold my Outlander years ago.
