I installed the Curt hitch last night along with the Mitsu harness. I did both without lowering the muffler. My only issue is figuring out where to mount the harness plug on the car:

Both the Draw-Tite and Mitsubishi hitches have a pre-drilled mount for it, but the Curt does not. I'm hesitant to drill the hitch for it, but I might do it as there is no other way that makes sense.

Same thing here. For now I just have it attached with pull ties & I'm going to have a friend weld a small plate on that I can use to hold it to the hitch.

I'd like to say thank you, to the OP!
I've been having heaps of trouble, largely due to UHAUL's incompetence, but because of this thread, I can now go on with my 3000mile trip!
Thanks Again!

Default Snaking the 4 pin hitch wire

Hi All:

If this has been discussed on this thread, or elsewhere on the board, I sincerely apologize.

Recently, I've been able to install a 3rd party hitch harness, otherwise designed for my 2007 Outlander, without problems. I got the cable near the driver's headlight energized for the hitch connector under the passenger's side storage tray in the back, and snaked the wire from the 3rd party hitch harness through the tire jack compartment. Having first unscrewed the "scruff panel," I snaked the wire under the back carpeting, and out the middle back of the vehcile, all ready to sit at the bottom of the tailgate, and energize the lights on that which is towed, while the tailgate is closed down on the wire.

What would really be nice though, I think, is if I could get the wire snaked such that when the snap remove cover on the back, black bumper, just right of center, is removed, there would appear my 4 pin connector.

Does anyone know what to temporary remove on the car to effect this, and is it much to do?

Thanks

Glad I found this before taking my outlander to the shop to get a hitch installed. Now I'll just do it myself and save a little $$ on the side and please my wife somewhat. I have a few questions though.

1. I'm looking to order my hitch and harness off of etrailer.com planning to get the drawTite hitch and the custom fit wire harness. Has anyone had issues with installs for either of these?

2. No one seems to mention installing a cooler transmission when installing a hitch. Is one not needed? I plan to tow a 14' aluminum boat do i need one?

Thanks in advance.

You already have a transmission cooler, just have a look below driver's foglight:

Hi!
Even if we didn't have the tranny cooler, you can easily pull a 14foot Alum boat with a small car/sedan. (I have a 14foot fiberglass, and forget its even behind me while towing it with the Outlander)

Happy boating
