Bad Battery
I took my Outlander in today for the first oil change and tire rotation. I bought this new in April 2014 and it only has 4000 miles on it. while at the shop I use ( not the dealership ) they check everything and they did a battery test and I was told I have a dead cell. So far the Outlander is starting ok in this cold weather and I am taking it to the dealer on Thursday for a few warranty issues. I know there is a free 2 year replacement but I was wondering if there are any good options other than stock. Thanks

honestly, I'd get a 2nd opinion. not saying it isn't possible, but I think it is unlikely. Most parts shops can test your battery for free. if it is bad, I'd twist the stealership's arm you bought it from for a replacement. No sense in buying another battery when you might get the one you got replaced.

I think the battery on my Outlander ES went a bit more than two years but was already weak. We replaced it with an Interstate battery, but that too isn't particularly strong anymore. The shop from which we bought it has promised us a free replacement within two years, and we might have to take them up on it.

car batteries are designed to be cycled at ~voltage.
Leaving it sitting for most of a year, with all the electric crap now in, will suck the guts out of it.
Buy a battery maintainer, put a dual battery rig in, or, y'know, actually drive the thing.
