i would think that a 500 to 1000 mile break-in period should be sufficient for that to occur, but again....i was told by my dealer's parts mgr that synthetic was ok, so, as i mentioned previously, after about 1200 miles when i did my first oil-change i went with 10w-30 synthetic. when i take the car in for a semi-annual check-up, i'll ask again with more direct specificity.

As long as the dealer says it's okay, you're good to go....as long as the parts manager doesn't quit or transfer...lol. That's good to know though, I likely will not run full synthetic in my car though...not yet anyways.

I went with Castrol Turbomax Guardian 15W-40 non synthetic. Here's a thing that's got me a little peeved. I bought a 4 quart jug, the dealer called me up later and said they needed a 'little' more so on my way down to the dealership I picked up a 1 quart container. Later the car was ready and he said they used most of the 5th quart! He gave me what was left, which was basically nothing. So they used a full 5 quarts for my first oil change, doesn't that seem like a lot? Should I tell them to remove a 1/2 quart to prevent damage?
Also, how in the hell can you tell the oil level on the dipstick? That has got to be the worse dipstick I've seen in my life, there are only two levels etched on the stick but they are only about 1 inch apart from eachother and the oil level has always been way, way above the top level from the first day I bought the car [&o]

i thought we had 4.5 qt capacity, I'd have to double check it to be sure. If the dealer put almost 5 qts, then it's their fault if something breaks due to that- but check your owners manual, it will tell you what the capacity is.

i thought 4.5 qts as well. if you don't see bubbles on the dip-stick, you should be ok; and it is difficult to check the level. i've found at ttimes that it shows a little higher on one side than the other; go figure....i'd try to pin the dealership on overfilling your crankcase so you don't have a warranty issue in the future.
