brake pad rattle..
Hello. Just put new Wagner ThermoQuiet ceramics on the front wheels of my 07 XLS Outlander. Also put new hardware clips in place. now they rattle like a son of a bitch. Does anyone have a good way to stop this rattling? Thanks
Yes. I greased the pad clips front and back before installing into the caliper.. I have had a set of these on previously with no rattle however as well..thinking of taking them back out and expanding clip and pushing in more tightly..?
thanks again ccernst!
to be honest....I didn't replace my clips on the Outlander. I remember my clips were still firm...so I ran with what worked. I honestly just replaced the pads and that was it. I do remember there being two clips, one for top and one for bottom. knock on wood, this is one issue I've yet to battle myself.
Try taking off the grease, i never use grease on mine. I either replace with new hardware slides or use a wire wheel on a drill to clean the existing slides. Never had an issue with rattle or noise when using decent brake pads.
Almost all the aftermarket pads i use have glued backings, so i don't think shims are needed, or are even applicable for the outlander.
My guess is the OEM doesn't use grease because you do actually need some friction to prevent the pad from moving and bouncing back and forth.
