hello all Outlander enthusiasts, got a question and also a comment for you all. when do you change the transfer case oil and rear diff oil, how many miles? also i priced this at the stealership, they quoted me 400 for both. BUT my local mechanic says it doesnt have to be changed, but will look at it to see if there is some discolor or what ever. what should i do?

 

I changed mine at 60k. Diff didn't look horrible, but tcase definitely needed changing.

 

So I just for back from my mechanics. And he was right. The oils did not need to be changed, not at 60k miles at least. I saw it with my own eyes, the oil was clean clear no order looked perfect. No metal shavings on screw. I will have him check it again a year from now. Wow talk about dealer stealership.

 

I put Motul GEAR 300 75W-90 synthetic gear oil in the Xfer case and diff at 65,000 kms, the old oil looked fairly clean and would have been Ok for a while longer.

 

if you're doin heavy off road stuff, or heavy 4wd...then ya 50k even better. But if reg driving then it can wait.
