I have a 2017 Outlander and yes the 2 wires and a power source does work but make sure you disconnect the battery before you try it.

is disconnecting the battery is only a safety measure ? or if I dont disc. the battery , what is going to happen ?

you could spike the computer and cause the system to go into safety mode. Then you will need to get it reset with an appropriate scantool
