Question Exterior tinted windows

Seriously ?

I bought the truck used with the only flaw that 2 windows have the tints a little scratched. Due to what ? I do not know but I suspect it's snow scraping.

It got me thinking ... the Japenese Engineer that thought of tinting the windows on the outside has never seen snow !!!

Well, here's the question since winter is coming;

Do you take good care not to scrape your windows ? what do you do with icy snow that really needs a hard scraping ? What do YOU do ?

I just don't want to scratch them more then they are.

Thanks

i have never seen a car get those till i got this truck. mine are the same way, i hear you can fill them with some solution using salt, water, alchole, and i think bug spray, there are how to's on youtube but i have never tried it. when i had all my interior windows RE tinted darker it made it harder to see the scratches

In the fall I use rain-x on all the windows to reduce the ice addesion and for scrapper I use the cheap yellow 2 inch plaster spatula, I cut the edge with a paper slicer to give it a square edge. These are flexible and will follow the curvature of the window.

If broken just redo the edge with the paper slicer or a good scissor.
No scratch on my 2010.

I've never seen nor heard of tinting on the outside
Maybe it's different over there, but mine stock had "privacy glass" in the rear half, which has the tint built into the glass itself. The tinting I then got for the front is definitely on the inside.
Exterior tint makes no sense whatsoever, and I highly doubt it was "a Jap that thought of that", in that I've never seen a factory-tinted vehicle like that. I'm guessing aftermarket tinting by someone who had no clue.

^- i would agree, not to mention that it would seperate with temp changes and weather, there is no way you can tint the outside of glass, it is actually tinted factory in a dip tank when making the glass itself, much like is done with eyeglasses. the scratches you are seeing are in the glass from crap on the windows before a scraper is used. i tinted mine darker... from the inside of course

I know 3 people with an Outlander (including me); 2007 LS, 2009 ES, 2011 XLS, all have exterior tints !

Using anything else than a good ol' scraper doesn't make sense !

Sigh ...
