I have a 32 hours car trip coming up, and don't want to fry my HDD before it.

At this picturehttp://www.experts-exchange.com/imag...-connector.jpg you can see the pins.
The red one should be connected at the right site. Don't forget to let the four pins at the right end unpluged.
You have also to remember that the power connection should be at the left.
Your adapter should have a blind pin at the bottom and around middle - right.

Are you sure you have the hard drive hooked up as Primary Master

yes, the dmesg is showing that the disk Toshiba (there was none on laptop anyway) is on /dev/hda
I have looked into the script unlockhd (it is a bash script) and saw that it looks for /dev/hda.

So, I think that since the outlander is newer, the password to unlock the disk may have been changed.

Procedure (long version):
1. unlock the MMCS' hdd as described here (https://mitsubishiforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=25583)
2. copy the files hd1.xxx from DVD to disk
3. rename all hd1.xxx as hd1.xxx.gz
4. decompress all gz files
5. join all resulted files in a single large file (~20G)
6. mount it in linux on a folder (in /mnt for example)
7. attach MMCS' disk to the linux box and copy all files from /mnt to the partition containing the maps (you may overwrite the existing files)
8. turn off the computer and moutn the disk back in MMCS

The short version:
1. download the archive from ftp://194.88.148.1/ (username: maps pass: mitsubishi)
2. extract all files to the MMCS' disk partition containing the maps (overwrite)

I was trying to make a backup of a DVD nav disk and found that it is possible MMCS to do the update with the maps without hardware key.
All the above are not tested.
-Make an iso image of the one you download from ftp://194.88.148.1/ (username: maps pass: mitsubishi) and then burn using Nero with the booktype set to DVDROM to a DVD+R disk.
Your burner must be able to set the DVD bookmark to DVDROM. (LG)
You can't do it on a DVD+RW disk on any burner for some reason, only DVD+R disks and in our case DVD+R DL because of the size.
To tell Nero to set it to DVDROM, you select RECORDER from the toolbar and then select CHOOSE RECORDER from the pull down menu.
When the window comes up and you select your drive, at the bottom left hand corner of the dialog window you will see OPTIONS>>. select this and it expands the window.
If your drive can set the booktype, you will see a selection box on the lower left, where you can choose DVDROM as the booktype. Select it and choose OK to close the dialog window. If it is not there your drive does not support setting booktype.
Then all you need to do is burn your ISO image to the DVD.
During the burn Nero sets the booktype.
Try it and lets hope that it will load without hardware key.

Nope, it does not work, nothing happens when I put DVD into MMCS. Just checking disk and that's all...

I wanted to give the above ago also.
However the map files i downloaded are 11.5GB.
I converted this to an iso image which was still over 10GB.
How can an image of this size be burned to a DVD (even dual layer will only take 8.5GB).
Any ideas gratefully received.
I have also seen that someone is selling update nav discs (for the UK) on ebay:
DVD PART NUMBER T1000-10659/10660/10661
EUROPE 0613
PART NO. MZ313150
PACK NUMBER T1000-10657.
Does anyone know if this different to the files we are downloading from the links on this forum.
Also if I were to buy this disc from ebay (which the seller says does not need a hardware key), would I be able to use it to update more than one MMCS unit?

Well the idea was to burn maps.tgz as it is to (DL) dvd. But tryed that and no effect, just checking disk.DVD PART NUMBER T1000-10659/10660/10661
"EUROPE 0613
PART NO. MZ313150
PACK NUMBER T1000-10657."
Is it just UK update or full EU maps update, do you know?
And how much would thtat be?
Map Version 2007-A
Map Data M140 AEU_07_200801F
As far as I know that should be the latest maps update by navteq...

I think the ebay item may be just UK.Priced at £59.
Do you think it is usable on more than one MMCS?

If it's DVD update, no H/W key, it should work on each and every MMCS.
