Hello. New owner of a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander LS here.
On my vehicle the RR tire is from a different manufacturer than the rest. I know on 4x4's you need all matching tires but I'm not sure if that's the case for this vehicles AWD system. Should I fork out the cash and buy all new tires? Is it completely unnecessary?

 

as a matter of good practice, tyres should be paired, front pair, back pair. If theyre all the same then even better.

 

Upon further research I have decided to just trade my tires at a local used tire shop. Apparently the 4wd system should be able to adjust for the difference but it still could cause excessive heat and wear. Better safe than sorry.

 

Read the oners manual on this. The front and rear should be of the same circumfrence. Any difference would reult of unnecessary wear on the transfer case and tires.

 

Were the tyres of different size or same size but different make. If they were same size, should there be any problem even if different makes?

 

Actual dimensions differ between tire manufacturers, even if the tires are rated exactly the same size. On an AWD vehicle I would always replace all 4.

 

We had this problem last year. We blew a tire with a good amount of tread remaining. We ended up replacing just two, put them up front and ran around in 2wd until they were sufficiently wore down. Took about half a year.
