Smile 4 WD Lock

Hi All:

As far as I know the 4WD lock only works when you are going less than 18 MPH...

You can put it on but it will only work at low speeds...If you want tru 4WD go buy a Jeep...

4wd lock on the Outtie is not a real lock but only transfers UPTO 50% more torque to the rear when COMPARED to 4wd auto. It will also help reduce understeer when entering corners at speed but don't try it unless you are trained driver - so not just for slippery conditions.

WRT OP my 04 subaru impreza (with winter tires) got stuck in a snow field (deliberately driving on the in-laws farm field for fun) with a similar situation when driving into deeper snow: only one or two wheels on opposite axles were spinning - the other 2 or 3 not moving at all. Had to get the tractor to get us out But snowdriving was a blast !

Buying a Jeep doesn't solve the problem. Since when Jeep's generally had true difflocks?

Now most Jeep's do have TC or electronic diffs, but so do most 4wd Mitsus.

To solve the problem: buy difflocks.

If you want tru AND reliable 4WD go buy Mitsubishi Pajero There is some talk that Mitsu might bring back the next generation Montero to USA, actually the current generation Pajero sold in Europe is a very nice looking 4x4. It won numerous international awards for best 4x4 of the year.

I wonder if a mechanical limited slip diff would have also solve the problem?
